Rugby League

For the last four weeks we have been having rugby league lessons with Coach Sam.  We have learnt to make a big `W' with our hands, look at the ball when passing and squishing the ball when we put it down. We have really enjoyed working with our team!

May the Force be with you

This week was Science week and it started off with a push and a pull as we investigated different everyday items that use a push or pull movement. In small groups we rotated around five activities. They were:
1. pushing rubber bands onto geoboards
2. a pulley system
3. pushing a ball
4. pulling blu tack
5. pushing blocks together

On Wednesday, we had a Science in the Van show. The Three Billy Goats Gruff used pushing, pulling and friction to move the Troll off the bridge to get to the other side.

On Friday, we had our very own Room Five Scientists show their science homework projects. We had a great range of experiments and information gathering. Well done!

Keeping Ourselves Safe

Welcome to Eden who completes are classroom for the year.

This week, Constable Harwood came in and talked to us about using our cell phones to dial for an emergency. Please show your child how they can access 111 on your cell phone.  He also talked about what to do if someone tries to get them into a car. We practised saying 'Help, help, help!" Lastly he reinforced the need to know where they live. Please continue to talk to your child about their letterbox number, street and suburb.

Next week we start our unit on forces - push and pull. We have the Science Van coming in on Wednesday for this. Please send in $4 if yo haven't already and keep working on those Science Projects at home. They need to be brought in on Friday. Good luck.

Golf

Welcome to Aarijah to Room Five this week.  Everyone looked fantastic in their Bright clothes on Friday for Travelwise Week. Well done to everyone who walks to school each day.

This term we will have 4 golf lessons. So far I think all of Room 5 could be future PGA master contenders as we have listened very carefully to instructions and we are hitting the target area easily!

Length work

Welcome to Term 2 and a very special welcome to Andy and Joban who join Room 5.

We started our Keeping Ourselves Safe unit with a visit by our Community Constable who told us that is is really important to know our family name, address and suburb. We have practised this in class and ask that you keep practising this at home. There will also be other homework coming home over the next couple of weeks. This is an important part of this unit, so please spend some time completing this with your child. Thank you.

We have also learnt about length this week. We started the week learning about short and long by making play dough snakes.

We went outside and used jump ropes to make short and long lengths and compared them to things in the playground.

Then we used the words long, longer, longest, shorter and shortest to compare rods and objects found  in the room. You could find compare objects at home to find out which things are longer and shorter than a book.

Next week our sounds of the week will be: oy, ow
The focus words will be: like, likes, with, am, the

Clay Suns

Welcome to Tamaku, Vonal and Sky to Room 5.

As part of our unit on the pattens of the world, we made clay suns for art.

For the developmental programme we had play dough in the room to create and play with last week. Then we were then able to use a piece of clay to shape into a sun.

This week, we painted a base colour on them and then added high lights.

Finally Mrs Hutton put nylon and a magnet on the back of them so we can proudly display them in our room and at home.

This week's sounds are v, z , th.
This week's words are the, are, in, like.

In maths we are going to look at halves.
